Heroes and Villains: Day 25

Another Art
(for Loki, with apologies to EB)

The art of mastering isn't hard to lose:
a trick is always wound up to unravel.
You die enough, you wear it like a bruise.

To walk a mile in someone else's shoes
may mean you leave them barefoot on the gravel.
The art of mastering isn't hard to lose.

When all the universe could stand accused,
you get a little crazy with the gavel,
and sometimes even whimsy leaves a bruise.

I once deceived a brother. He felt used,
but honest war to him's a youthful cavill.
The art of mastering isn't hard to lose.

I even ruled a world of the confused.
There's not much joy in ruling when your staff'll
match defiance only with a bruise.

You know you're not the one they'd sober choose--
they want the seed and not the shiny apple.
The art of mastering's not too hard to lose
when all things fade (gods damn it!) like a bruise.
