Heroes and Villains: Day 22

Magneto’s Seder

My people were cast into bondage
for evolving: as it is written, their bodies
were adorned with hair, where the sojourning
generations before were smooth. The first
of them stumbled on their sand-built homestead,
led by a dreamer, a costume hero who fought
with brothers, vengeance-razored. Foresight
like a god’s didn’t stop him believing
the heathen bureaucrats. What says
the wicked son, the bad example?
He dares ask what you mean, binding him
to oaths in a soupstained storybook
you got free for buying the right coffee.
I’ll damper my doubts
so we can get to dinner: the One
who is like a rock and a shadow and
yes a lodestone has drawn us close
to His service. That’s enough.
