Art and Craft 2018: 1

American Gothic

On the porch, past her shoulder, tiny
caucus of transplanted domestics, decades
from Cameroon or Tortola. Flowers
color bred for dull faith and chitchat
about the weather. The last skirmish
to draw back bowstring hemp far gone.
The outcome evident. No daggered
footnote, no chained whispers from
mother-in-laws' tongues. If a foreground
wife feels something less
than free, she must move her eyes
from their green stare to say it.
