The Shoebox - Day 5

Moose Haas

The great northern lake of your chest in road blue.
The copse of black ash beneath your nose, smelling
still of last night's decisions. The neighbor's
haircut, and the neighbor's crushed shrug
coming home from shift. The broad diphthongs
of your names, leagues from the viking pines
that earned them: OO two mirror lakes down
at The Dells, AA twin tents pitched to steal
a weekend fishing walleye, where average
is something like a compliment, or would be
if men spoke when they drank.
