The Shoebox - Day 17
Jim Essian
C - A's
#472, Topps, 1985
It's getting colder in the D.
That wooly bear is inching south
like union jobs. You'll never be
a tiger moth. Adorn your mouth
with something warm--a stole
of attic classic hair
the rookies mock. Your role
is picking up your partner's stare
and making him look smart. You move
from starter to platoon reserve
before your knees gave out. You'd love
a chance to lead instead of serve,
to break your crouch and take the weight.
Were Spring sunsets always this late?
