The Shoebox - Day 24

after a joke by Mitch Hedberg
Baseball is a tough sport
when you want to do two thousand
of something. The fence between
legend and fellow is whether you fail
three times a night or four, given
the chance. The specials seem
especially cheap this year, wheatpaste
bills on scaffold, hawking what's next.
They're good numbers, not the kind
of fame it hurts to welcome in.
Odd are, every man is bridegroom
to a curse, in the reckoning. You can't
be small. You saved a life. You must be
very far away.
