Candy Shop - Day 9

 Goldenberg's Peanut Chews

Freedom is a pride
in what we're not:
not milksoft nor fullsized.
Not part of a thrice-
bought empire. Inside
we are a short road
of Roman concrete, growing
harder as we settle. We
are not repaired, proud
of the potholes winter chews
through us. When liberty left
home, we got the cradle
on consignment, birthed
plush chimeras to whip
batteries at the visitors.
We are not done, even if
it's just the sticky bits
wedged deep in wisdom
teeth. History didn't hear
no bell.
