Pickup Poem Day 25
Wigs
This close to a pretender's mind, purebred
Lhasa ascendant: Smart, confident,
and complex; family comedians but regally
aloof with strangers. I am graded sub rosa
for connoisseurs, like trustworthy
coke—how fine, how close to reality
I skate under streetlamps or critics'
pinprick eyes. When you know
I'm me, you could scale my patron's heart,
bring your question to the hermit's aerie:
What's the act? There is always an act.
From where I sit, guessing has always been
more sacred than knowing.
