Scholar-athlete

The temporary love that throbs
at me in vicious downbeats.

The prayers wasted on me.
The numbered ballets and costume drama.

The stadium seats, row after row
of obsidian teeth.

I am too young, too noticed to be anything
but sacrifice.

    I wish my teeth
    were better
    rippling pecs
    sun -glossed
    torn tossed lost
    decks
    of cards
    thrown to the wind
    forever
