Cleave poem for sleeping arrangements
body in the shape of the number five
he sleeps on one side
and in the crook of his knees, the marmalade cat
pinched up like fingers gathering snuff
a stubborn contortion of roundness
the sure and mechanical warmth
a french horn swaddled in an electric blanket
the sun-meets-horizon routine
paperweight and paper, 'til one wakes
begging to be fed
NOTE: The cleave poem contains three texts: the left column, the right, and the entire piece read top-to-bottom, left-to-right (i.e. the two columns interwoven.)
It requires special layout, which I think is a bit undemocratic, but I have approximated the form as best I can using Blogger's UI.
