Oh, yeah
Poem for Randy Savage
Three adjectives
and a man in the middle. Isn’t that
the epitaph we all fight
to cut into our tiny lives?
Your slogan was an ode
to the affirmative. No gimmick,
only satisfaction there was
a place—even if just
on TV—where everything was simple
as giving or receiving
violence. Of course
it’s fake, we say of everything,
as if it’s better we know
the apron of life
and fiction, to slowly count
it out, to disqualify the news
so no title changes hands. The ring
of faith was once, too,
at the full. We believed
you ached and bled
for us, for no special
reason. Only we needed
a little excitement.
